Ambient studio and printroom lighting and Viewing of prints and proofs is perhaps one of the most important, but seldom properly considered parts of the colour management jigsaw.

Aswell as their high end press side equipment and supply of colour balanced tubes for environemntal lighting, Industry standard U.S. lightbooth manufacturer, Graphic Technology, or GTI, now offer the GTI PDV e series Professional Desktop Viewers. These desktop viewers provide Imaging Industry Standard D50 colour viewing conditions (or, for those who want it, D65 colour viewing conditions).

The PDV range of viewers utilize innovative, energy efficient slim-line lamps and compact electronic ballasts. Improved lamp and reflector technology provides a smaller and more convenient light source without compromising either light intensity or evenness of illumination.

To match monitor luminance in "softproofing" the dimmable option for the D50 lamps is considered by many users to be an essential.

The new e-series of PDV Professional Desktop Viewers uses the latest multi-voltage electronic ballasts with T8 Graphiclite lamps. Their design has been enhanced to provide increased efficiency at a lower cost. All models come pre-assembled with a unique hinged design that allows quick and easy set up for viewing and equally fast fold-up for storage and/or transport. Accessory side walls, available for each model, are recommended for tighter compliance to the D50 industry viewing standard. These new models also provide significantly greater viewing areas compared with the previous models.

PDV-2020e Large Format Desktop Model
The PDV-2020e was developed specifically for large format image viewing and is particularly useful for print comparison. The accessory PJK-2020e Print Judging Kit provides a magnetic rear wall and print bars to allow a 16" x 20" print to be displayed in either landscape or portrait orientation.

The PDV-2e/M complies with ASTM D1729 standards and is an essential tool for visual color assessment, comparison of color variations, and the detection of metamerism.

(Metamerism = when color samples appear to match under one illumination condition but distinctly change when viewed under a different illumination condition).

The PDV-2e/M features 4 light sources - D65, CWF (TL84 optional), Incandescent, and UV, an ETM elapsed time meter to monitor usage of the daylight source, and an international voltage selector.
Unique hinged construction allows quick set-up and pack-up. Side walls assure tight control of viewing environment and are conveniently stored on the rear of the unit.

GTI "MiniMatcher"

For digital photographers and those who want a better way of illuminating products accurately when shooting (modelling lights on set are not colour balanced) and when colour correcting, we recommend the MM-1e viewing box which can easily take an A3+/B3 proof. For use beside a monitor screen the dimmable option is needed too, ideally. GTI "MiniMatcher" provides, as standard, three spectrally dissimilar sources of illumination to assure accurate visual color assessment and color comparison as well as easy detection of metamerism. MiniMatcher is simple to operate, with an individual rocker switch for each source. A useful elapsed time meter to monitor usage of the daylight source is available as an option.

MM-1e is supplied with three Light Sources as standard:
Artificial Daylight (D65 or D50) (dimmable option for monitor "softproof" matching).
Store Lighting (CWF or TL84) for "in store" product colour assessment
Home Tungsten Lighting (Incandescent A)
Plus a very useful Ultraviolet option (UVA BLB) for optical brightener detection.
